Brisbane kids and teens who love to write stories…
I’m Charmaine Clancy, your host for the iTeenWrite video workshops. If you’re in or near Brisbane, I’d love you to join me for my live writing workshops.
The good news is we may have a bookstore lined up. We’ll make an announcement soon, and can hopefully resume our workshops by March 2015.
AGES: We have members ranging from 7yrs to 16yrs. It’s a great mixed group. The writing tasks are designed to suit struggling writers or challenge the talented.
TIMES: We will announce the new times soon, our previous workshops were held on Saturday afternoons.
HOLIDAYS: Each school holiday we offer a one day workshop — these run from 10am to 3pm, include writing activities, lunch and snacks. They book out very quickly, so be fast!
We have a lot of fun at our workshops, they’re fast paced, dynamic and very interactive. Members of the writing club are provided with writing tips, prompts and exercises. The activities are often quirky (like the time we all tried on crazy hats to inspire story ideas) and the kids get lots of laughs. Everyone has the opportunity to share their work (although there is never any pressure) and the kids are extremely supportive to each other.
While trying out different styles of writing, kids learn a lot about narrative structure, strengthening sentences and using figurative language.
At the end of each year, members will be invited to submit one story for a club anthology – their stories will be combined into a PDF ebook which they can share with friends and family. Members will be able to brag that they are a published author!
Cost (to be confirmed with new premises)
Participation in the monthly workshops is only $15 per session.
You only pay for the sessions you attend and the price includes a snack and drink (the awesome cafe serves up a platter of cakes and jugs of juice for the kids). PLUS, all members receive 10% off purchases from the bookstore at the time of the workshop (good time to stock up on pressies!).
Holiday workshops may vary, but are usually just $50 for the day and include lunch and snacks.
It’s simple, you can email me for more information at email@example.com and you’ll be added to our email list. That way, you’ll get the news when we start up at our new location.
You should have a notebook or a folder where you can keep all your stories and inspiration in one place. I always bring spare pencils, pens, erasers and paper just in case, so don’t panic if you’ve forgotten your book. Do make sure you bring along your courage to try new things, your creativity and your sense of fun.
